Fall Picnic and Couscous Cucumber Salad

A couple of nights ago, I went to the Hollywood Bowl for a concert with friends. The Hollywood Bowl is a gorgeous venue nestled into the Hollywood Hills that offers beautiful outdoor views in addition to incredible sound and lighting. Seeing a show at the Bowl during its season is one of my favorite end of summer/early fall traditions.

September is the best time in L.A. Summer tends to start late here and September is usually one of the warmest months of the year. I appreciate the late summer weather more, knowing the hot days are numbered and that it will feel like fall soon. In September, I am more likely to take advantage of  unique, summer-y locales like the beach or Hollywood Bowl.

We brought a picnic dinner of wine (I love this chocolate flavored one from Trader Joe’s), pasta salad and snacks like cheese (gruyere), crackers, fruit (oranges and nectarines) and peanut butter filled pretzels. I made a simple pasta salad with israeli couscous, cucumber, parmesan (feta is great too), and lightly dressed it with lemon juice, olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic, mint, parsley and a little apple cider vinegar. For richer flavor, I also add kalamata olives.

Happy hump day! xx
