Lovely Spaces, Places and Things: Around Hawaii

mauna kea beach big island hawaii

My boyfriend and I returned from Hawaii late Tuesday night. It was so hard to leave the beautiful scenery and weather, and even harder to say goodbye to a week of almost no work (I barely checked any emails). I’m slowly easing back in to my normal L.A. routine. It’s been a challenge, but there is no place I would rather call home. I feel pretty lucky to get back to a good life in a place I enjoy near friends and family.

In honor of the trip, here are some lovely spaces, places and things from the Big Island. Beautiful beaches and perfect weather year-round make Hawaii a popular vacation destination. This beach at the Mauna Kea is one of my favorites.

big island hawaii sunset

I love how the resorts and restaurants on the island take advantage of their gorgeous scenery by building indoor/outdoor open concept spaces. This restaurant offered a particularly special sunset view for our last dinner. I also loved this and this restaurant (way too much amazing food on the trip).

Little lizards were all over the place. I could not  get over their vivid coloring and gorgeous patterns –  unlikely inspiration for wearing bold, head to toe neon.

big island beach home

I loved this villa situated on a path at the edge of the water, steps from a pristine white sand beach and a golf course. With tons of big windows, the home offers 180 degree views of bright blue ocean.

kabuki nuts big island hawaii

On one of two wonderful tours, we learned about Hawaii’s vast array of plant life. We ate the most amazing orange I have ever had and raw kabuki nuts fresh from their trees.

The view from our room’s patio was serene and relaxing. This lush landscape offered the perfect place for eating breakfast each morning.

Equally as lovely was the room’s huge bathroom including a very large tub with gold fixtures.

Currently Craving: Matt Wisniewski Dreamscapes

fashion art prints

I am officially obsessed with Matt Wisniewski’s prints thanks to Strawberry Koi. Matt Wisniewski creates digital collages, fusing two things that I love: fashion and nature. This unexpected combination results is beautiful, inspiring artwork.

The artist lives in Pennsylvania and graduated from New York’s Rochester Institute of Technology. There is a great interview about his creative process here.

Swing(in’) Mint Dress

mint dress fedora style outfit

Sadly, we only have a few more days left in paradise. I am soaking up the last few rays of Hawaii sun and beautiful scenery while I can. I can’t wait to share some photos from the trip once I’m back.

These were taken before we left for vacation. This swing dress is feminine and fun with its pretty mint color, A-line cut and full skirt. I combined the 50s ladylike style with beach-y accessories and pops of red/hot pink. The straw fedora has been one of my go-to Hawaii staples.
